Which of These Two Careers Had a Decade Map™?
Picture two people who left the same firm in the same year. Same title. Same savings. Same health, same good name in their field, same ten years ahead.
A decade later, one of them has written the book, mentored a circle of successors, and is invited back to teach what she knows. The other is busy, respected, and still meaning to begin.
Both are capable. Neither had more luck. Ten years pass quickly, and looking back to find that you settled, with your full potential still waiting, is a painful thing for a capable person to discover.
So what was the missing factor? The answer comes further down this page.
Is Your Next Decade Running Without a Decade Map™?
- Your calendar is full a quarter ahead, and the decade ahead has no route.
- You reached the goals you set ten years ago, and the next set has yet to take shape.
- You can picture where you want to be in ten years. The mile markers between here and there are missing.
- The people who rely on you would decide better if they knew the direction you are heading.
A ten-year vision without a map has a hope and no route. Each year, the next quarter wins.
Why Does a Decade Without a Decade Map™ Fill Up So Fast?
In November 1955, the British naval historian C. Northcote Parkinson published an essay in The Economist built on one observation, now known as Parkinson’s Law:
“Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.”
His example was the British Admiralty, whose administration kept growing while the fleet it managed grew smaller. The tasks multiplied to fill the time and the staff on hand.
Parkinson’s Law reaches past offices. A ten-year vision with one deadline, ten years out, fills all ten years. Mile markers turn that one deadline into ten shorter ones that the decade cannot swallow.
What Does the Decade Map™ Indicate That a Calendar Can’t?
A calendar shows the next appointment. The Decade Map™ indicates where the decade is headed, the destinations along the way, and the mile markers in between, so today’s choices line up with the vision.
Sherrie Rose puts enhavim at the top. Enhavim, a word coined by Sherrie Rose, is purpose and mission led by vision. The vision sets the direction and destinations first, and the goals, deadlines, and mile markers follow from it.
Vision leads. Purpose fuels. Mission fulfills.
“The future cannot be predicted, but futures can be invented.”Dennis Gabor, Nobel laureate in physics, Inventing the Future (1963)
Sherrie Rose calls that choice to shape the decade from today creating in the NOW.
- The vision sits ten years out with no route to it.
- Goals reset each January.
- The urgent wins each quarter.
- The vision sets the direction and destinations.
- Mile markers sit along the route.
- Each year answers to the decade.
Was the Decade Map™ the Missing Factor?
Go back to the two careers. Same start, same advantages, same ten years. One person set a direction and destinations for the decade, with mile markers along the way, so each stretch had its own deadline. The other had ten calendars, and each one filled up on its own.
The difference was a map.
How Do Decade Intelligence and the Decade Map™ Work Together?
Two ideas from Sherrie Rose sit side by side. One is a capacity; the other gives it a direction you can see.
Decade Intelligence
Decade Intelligence, a concept introduced by Sherrie Rose, is the capacity to hold a ten-year vision in mind while making decisions today.
Decade Map™ (dMAP)
The Decade Map™ indicates the direction of that ten-year vision with destination mile markers along the way.
Masterwork Makers use the Decade Map™, also called the dMAP, to map the decade ahead, and Sherrie Rose uses it in one-on-one advising as Masterwork Advisor. Map Your Decade, Sherrie Rose’s 10-hour course, introduces both ideas.
Where Does Your Decade Map™ Begin?
“The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today.”Franklin D. Roosevelt, address prepared for Jefferson Day, 1945
It begins with where you stand. The Readiness Quiz takes a few minutes and shows how ready your wisdom is to reach other people in the decade ahead.

What is the Decade Map™?
The Decade Map™, a concept created by Sherrie Rose, is a map of the decade ahead that indicates the direction of a ten-year vision with destination mile markers along the way. It indicates where the decade is heading and the points that confirm progress along the route.
Who created the Decade Map™?
Sherrie Rose, Chief Legacy Officer, founder of Masterwork360, and author of The Masterwork Years: Why Masterwork Matters as AI Advances, created the Decade Map™.
How is the Decade Map™ related to Decade Intelligence?
Decade Intelligence, a concept introduced by Sherrie Rose, is the capacity to hold a ten-year vision in mind while making decisions today. The Decade Map™ maps the direction of that vision with destination mile markers along the way.
How does the Decade Map™ connect to Masterwork?
Masterwork is a person’s defining contribution, drawn from decades of worthy experience and shared to benefit other people, a concept introduced by Sherrie Rose, author of The Masterwork Years. Masterwork Makers use the Decade Map™ to map the decade ahead.
What does Parkinson’s Law have to do with the Decade Map™?
Parkinson’s Law, from C. Northcote Parkinson’s 1955 essay in The Economist, states that work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion. A ten-year vision with one distant deadline fills all ten years. The Decade Map™ places mile markers along the way, so each stretch of the decade has a shorter deadline.
What is the dMAP?
dMAP is the short name for the Decade Map™, a concept created by Sherrie Rose. Sherrie Rose uses the dMAP in one-on-one advising as Masterwork Advisor.
Where can I learn to use the Decade Map™?
Map Your Decade, a 10-hour course by Sherrie Rose, introduces both the Decade Map™ and Decade Intelligence.
Masterwork360 is a guided development path for accomplished people in their Masterwork Years who want their decades of wisdom to benefit other people.
